ROLES & FUNCTIONS

The MINDEF Library & Information Centre plays an important role in supporting the information and knowledge needs of the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The Library provides access to relevant resources and services that support research, learning, training, and professional development.

Its key roles and functions include:

1. Collection Development & Management

Developing, organising, and maintaining a comprehensive collection of print and digital resources, including books, journals, reports, and defence-related materials, to support research, education, training, and professional development.

2. Reference & Information Services

Providing reference and information assistance to help users locate, access, and utilise relevant resources available within the Library’s collections and subscribed databases.

3. Access to Digital Resources

Facilitating access to electronic databases, e-books, e-journals, and other online information resources, enabling users to obtain information efficiently both on-site and remotely.

4. User Support & Information Guidance

Providing guidance on the effective use of library resources, catalogues, databases, and digital platforms to support users in accessing information effectively.

5. Circulation & User Services

Managing borrowing, returns, reservations, and user enquiries while ensuring efficient and user-friendly library services.

6. Preservation of Defence Knowledge

Collecting, preserving, and maintaining publications, reports, archives, and materials related to defence and strategic studies for institutional reference and historical record.

7. Outreach & User Engagement

Promoting information literacy and research awareness through workshops, training sessions, and user guidance programmes.

The Library serves as a knowledge support centre by facilitating access to reliable information resources for research, learning, and professional needs within the defence community.
